Flipbook

Image
To look at a simple form of animation I created a flipbook. Creating the flipbook I made this flipbook by cutting up A4 paper and stapling it together. I started with the drawing on the front and used a lightbox to trace the previous page but slightly changing the pupils, mouth and eye shape gradually. I simply took a picture of myself and translated that into my style here. My drawing style is influenced by cartoons, comics and slightly by anime and manga. Notably Adventure Time,The Legend of Zelda:The Wind Waker, and the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are where I draw inspiration for my style from.

Animation Methods

Traditional Animation The most traditional form of animation is 2D hand drawn. The process consists of drawing frames that when put together will create the illusion of movement. This can be done physically or digitally using animation software. Frames can be drawn and scanned or just drawn digitally, and then coloured digitally. I've used Adobe Flash before to animate, where I've drawn digitally using a graphics tablet but a more industry standard software is Toon Boom Harmony.  Collage Animation Collage animation is a style using a mix of photos, images and clippings. Collage animation can be done using software like Photoshop but can also be done physically by scanning or taking pictures of the set. Its made through stop-motion which is an animation technique where something is moved, a frame is taken, and then moved again. These frames are then sequenced in an editing software like After Effects or Sony Vegas. Physically, an object is moved and then a photo is taken,b...

Idents

BBC 2 idents The colours and shapes here are very psychedelic which I feel gives a unique identity to these idents. It's pretty distinct from other channels which is good as its easy to tell what channel it is from this alone if you've seen them before. ITV ident This ident uses objects to spell out ITV. I think this one works well as it uses TVs,so they can show anything on them while spelling out ITV and that can make interesting visuals. The camera is constantly moving and the colours on the TVs stand out from everything else, which can work to grab attention. Cbeebies ident  This fits very well for the channel its on. Its bright and colourful, and the animation is lively and cartoony to attract a kid's attention. Along with that it is very simple looking which instantly says what kind of channel this is.  Channel 4 ident I think this ident works well as the metal man in it and the other idents creates a unique brand for the channel. This...
